change my oil today. realized i havent lubed my driveshafts in a long time. dug out my JUNK grease gun, loaded it up and pump "some" into every zerk i could find. i found 5 total.

i just pumped until i heard that slight lip smacking sound...any better way?

and i need a new grease gun. i have one of those mini ones. the grease is much more expensive, and it really sucks. it leaks and is a mess loading..

any better options? what grease gun do you have? do you just store them and they dont leak?

I changed my rear ujoints about a week ago. I bought one of those small grease guns from napa just to top the ujoints off and I was actually happy with how it worked. I bought refill cartridges for it but I read the instructions and it turns out you don't need to use the cartridges. You just take the top/pump end off and jam the open end of the canister into a tub/bucket of grease and pull the handle back. It'll fill the cylinder with grease. When it's full you just lock the rod back, screw on the top, release the rod, and push the rod back into the cylinder.

Are the little canister refills really that expensive? Do you really use that much grease? Where does yours leak from?

seemed appropriate to ask this here, does anyone else have a grease gun as leaky as this? I keep it in this bucket cause the liquidy red shit constantly seeps out of any small opening but the actual thick red grease (Mobil1 synthetic) doesnt leak out of the nozzle. I don't think I loaded the gun wrong, i just threw in the tube o' lube and released the plunger thing on the end to push it out. It was a $20 POS from auto zone but really is this normal for a cheapo or did I fuck up?

If you don't use your loaded grease gun often the oils in the grease can separate and leak out of the gun. I bought a grease gun from Tractor Supply Company because our family farm is tax exempt there. As for adding grease to u joints, add grease until new stuff comes out. Grease breaks down so by pushing out the old all new takes its' place.
