How often do you flush the PS fluid?

I hear it is a bit of a mess but I would like to do it myself. Anyone have experience doing a power steering fluid flush? How much fluid do I need? Any write-ups or directions you can point me to? Thanks TW.

For my 4.0 v6 it takes about a litre. Two if I do it really thoroughly. It's not too messy if you have everything prepared. A bucket, plug for the reservoir and stuff. Do it of the fluid is contaminated. Mine gets contaminated pretty quick unfortunately. I don't know how. I start to lose power steering because of it. New fluid helps a lot. Don't do it unles it's needed basically.

^What he said. It is pretty easy to do and not messy if you are prepared correctly. Unfortunately, I wasn't really and made a mess. Like everything else on the Tacoma, it is so simple...
