How are you guys hooking up the power to the battery? I have the

$91 viair 88p portable compressor kit (12V, 120 psi, forup to 33" tires)

viair 88p and tired of using the clamps on the battery everytime I use it. I want to mount my portable compressor under the hood.

 

Hadn't thought about quick disconnects for water yet!

We will be cutting the clamps off and running the wires to relay and then to a extra Fuse block, Blue Seas/Skygear/cheap auto parts store mounted behind the taillight. Switch in the cab will be hooked to the relay.

 

Ok. I was thinking of cutting the clamps off. There's a fuse already hooked up to the compressor. Can I use that?

 

Yep. It's just cleaner to a Fuse block. Don't forget the relay.

 

Yes, you can use that fuse. I have my 2 wired through the RFRM That I built. In my sig.

 

That's what I'm asking. Do I need a relay? It's basically the same setup. I just want it to be under the hood permanently instead of grabbing it from my toolbox everytime I need it.

 

YES. You need the relay. A relay is an electromagnet switch. It takes the load off the regular switch used to activate the compressor.

I was thinking of using the same switch. I'm not going to be adding a switch in the truck.

 

You should be good to run it like that, but there is an led that comes on when you connect power. That may run your battery dead.

 

yea. thats what i was thinking. its pretty much the same setup now just that clamps are going to be connected to the battery permanently. any recommendations on what to use after i remove the clamps?

Mine doesnt come on anymore I re-wired everything because the spring in the old switch broke and I didnt connect that LED light back up.

 

I still prefer to run a relay. Though the pump is only rated at 20 amps. I have a similar switch here and it says it's rated for 30 amps. That should be ok then.

I would consider at least a breaker then. Since you don't always need the compressor to run, I'd leave it off so as to not wear it out prematurely.

 

It'll be switched off, I assume Lol.

 

I was confused for a sec but what sandman said. It will be off. I just use when I go off-roading or airing things up. I just hate getting out of my toolbox everytime. Just wanna lift hood, hook up to what needs air and turn on.
