    Hey,

Anyone know if a 2008-12 backup camera hook straight up to a 2014? Didn't feel like pulling the tailgate apart to see,

    Thanks!

Well can anyone at least tell me what the part number would be for the backup camera in a 2013?

Garmin Eco-Route HD for Bluetooth ODBII Diagnostics, 2014 Entune Plus w Navigation, Leer 100XL dome light wired to dome circuit, pop&lock tailgate and cap locks.
Hmmm, here's some information you might find useful

    1. I have a 2013 double cab long bed. It came with a backup camera and displayed the image with guidelines in the rear view mirror. The guidelines are part of the mirror display, I confirmed this.

    2. I swapped my 2013 "Display Audio" for a 2014 Entune Premium Nav Unit. It was plug and play.

    3. I purchased the mod to move the display from the mirror to the radio. This was easy. Video now displays on radio. HOWEVER, guidelines do not. I would have thought that the guidelines were part of the radio display for 2014s. This appears not to be the case.

This would mean that installing a 2013 or earlier camera would not show the guidelines on your system. Of course maybe different 2014 radio models behave differently.

Also the cameras are OUTRAGEOUS expensive direct from Toyota- $800. Seriously. There's at least one person selling compatible cameras (With the correct bracket) on ebay for about 1/8 of that. Jemko is another source.

Lastly, Pop&Lock had to modify their manual tailgate lock accessories because of a change to the backup camera on the Tacoma in 2014. I don't know if the change would also mean retrofitting a camera from 2013 would be a problem too. The 2014 part numbers are not available to compare.

Here is the part number through 2013, appears to be unchanged for all years that support a camera up to 2013 86790-04010. Actually, I was a little off. Price is *only* $630!!!

Hmmm that's a lot of helpful info. Thanks, I guess I might have to wait till more info comes out or just rip open my tailgate and see what kind of connection is in there.

the 2008-2013 toyota backup camera will work in the 2014 tacoma but you will need to purchase the 2008-2013 tailgate harness as well because the 2014 tailgate harness is different at the camera end, not the bumper connection end.

This was successfully done in this thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/325991-2014-backup-camera-2.html#post8654980

There are also two types of cameras, the newer version and the older version. If you check the tailgate harness at the camera end, you can immediately tell if it is a four or six prong.

Note that the older version, 86790-04010, which I know works in an 09, has four prongs in the harness connector, and it has five little slots all the way around the harness perimeter.

The newer version, 86790-04020, which was successfully used on this board in a plug an play works on a 2014. This harness connector has 6 prongs, and more of a bottom clip.

Pictures of the two cameras can be found here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/325991-2014-backup-camera-2.html#post8586981
