Just rebuilt my 1996 2.4l and P0401 comes up.I pulled cleaned and tested EGR valve, its good.Check all vacuum hoses and connections, good.Pulled the top half of intake, removed egr and that port was almost completely clogged with carbon,6 cans of cleaner and alot of work,no longer clogged.Anyone have any advice to the culprit? The only thing left is the vacuum modulator or the vacuum control valve,or am I missing something?Help!

I had a similar problem, and it turned out to be the EGR temp sensor. I removed it, cleaned it, replaced it. Problem gone.
