I see all kinds of posts about how the tacoma's brakes arent great and this and that and the other

And then i went to change my brake pads today...

Now...keep in mind i'm a very slack person when it comes to basic preventative maint.

    This is what i discovered

yes...those are my old brake pads...

Those are the ORIGINAL brake pads put on my truck when it was built/sold

My truck has 103K miles on it and so do those brake pads...yes its an auto...yes...i actually do use my brakes...

How do I know theyre original you ask?

Didn't know they still stamped teq on oem parts. Glad you got some life out of them.

    RIP Lucy.
    She's gone but not forgotten.
With about 96,000 miles on mine the rotors warped. Not severely just enough to be annoying. Foreign car specialist shop in town said they were thin and right on the edge of being able to be cut. I'm assuming whomever owned the truck before me had them done once, so appears the rotors are good for two turnings and then they're trash. Good thing they're cheap.

I still have stock brakes at 109000. I was towing some mulch (1yard) in a trailer without brakes. Something shiny caught my eye and I got a wee bit distracted. I looked back at the road and everyone was stopped while I was doing 45. I don't have an estimate as to how far I was from the stopped cars but it was close and the brakes still stopped me with abouttwo car lengths of space
