OK, so I've searched calculators online and they don't tell me this:

Can 8 ga wire that's only 12 inches long handle 150 amps?

Yes. I'd personally use 4awg wire to play it safe but 8awg will work. Is it continuous 150 amps or max 150 amps?

If it is 150 max and 100 continuous then it'll be fine, although I still recommend 4awg. 100 amps continuos is still ALOT of power! Im running 4awg wire from my battery my fuse breaker (less than 12" away) and still 4awg wire from the breaker (100amp) to my blue sea box (about 3"). Even at a max 100amp I'd still like the peace of mind with the 4g. Plus its better for your components and less stressful on the system

I agree with the previous replies .... 4 AWG would be smarter.
