I regularly take my truck to the dealer when I go to do the oil change. With oil prices high its pretty much the same and I save myself time. I also do it more for what they recommend afterwards. To see what needs to be done. I then take it to my mechanic and have him double check and do the stuff that really needs to be done.

So, I took my truck to do the regular oil change today. I have noticed a pretty bad oil leak that I swear I started smelling about 3 weeks ago and finally noticed it last week. So, I wanted to have that checked out. The service guy comes back and asks me to go to the back with him to show me the leak(s).

It's leaking from pretty much everywhere. I took the truck in 2 months ago. Nothing was wrong.

    This time around......
    They recommend:
    Front Cover Seal: $14.50
    Valve Cover Gaskets $18.59 ea(2)
Water Pump(since they are there already) $199.99
    Coolant $44.00
    Intake Manifold Gasket $15.64
Labor for all that (15hr) $1,483.50

    Thermostat & Gasket $53.57
    Labor Thermostat (1.5hr) $148.35

    Rear Main Seal $52.44

    Shop Supplies (8) $791.20
    Supplies $25.00

Total after taxes and everything $3064.19

    WTF!WTF!WTF!

I can get parts cheaper cause I have a business account. w/e still. I guess according to the mechanic the hardest part is that since my truck is lifted. He has to pretty much take the whole lift apart to get to all those gaskets and change everything. I don't even think he mentioned the oil pan. lol. I's leaking there also. Now, what I didn't know was when they lifted the truck they cut into the frame.

That's another question I have...Is that normal? I have a 5" Pro-comp lift an they cut the frame in order to for the drive-shaft to fit. I purchased the truck last year used from a dealer.

Any recommendations on mechanics in South Florida (West Palm south preferably in Miami or Fort Lauderdale) Some who's not going to "shaft" me...

    Thanks for listening and helping..

Here is where you can have a good laugh. It would cost you less money to drive up here to MY shop in Alabama, and get all of that work done for less. Now the question is if you have the 2.7 or the 4.0 engine. I will guess the 4.0. Assuming there is nothing hidden in the pricing that you didn't post, I would do the timing cover, water pump, valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gasket, thermostat, and rear main for about $400 in total parts, and less than $1000 in labor. (The thermostat labor is overlapped with the timing cover)

So I would say with tax and all you could get it done at my shop for less than $1500, to account for minor issues. I think it would cost you less than $1500 to drive here and back. Hahahaha.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
I'd recommend driving up to his shop to do the work. And you can get out of the house for a few days! And he might let you watch/learn.
