I picked up an old Warn M8000 from a buddy for $240. I am thinking of cleaning it up, spooling on some synthetic line and mounting it on the ARB bumper on my 2006. It seems to work fine when I test it.

What should I rework on this winch so it will be reliable and provide a few years of service? I junked the old steel cable, and will de-burr and repaint the spool. What else? The control box looks nasty, can the plastic box be replaced? Am I better off just dumping this on Craigslist and getting a new M8000-s ?

    Any advice appreciated.
