a tip for changing a cv axle

just finished changing out the front cv axle on the truck. i wheel mine pretty hard and always carry a spare axle in the toolbox just in case so i wanted to challenge myself to change it out using only the tools i keep on the truck just to prove i could do it on the trail if need be.

well i got as far as being ready to pop the axle out and ran into a problem, i couldnt get enough force to pop the c-clip loose that holds the axle into the housing. typically one would use a slide hammer to pop it out but i dont carry one on the truck. so this got me to thinking what could i use, well i found out that that the prybar looking end on the factory lug wrench would hook it just enough to pop the axle out.

just figured i would give everyone that info just incase you find yourself trying to change one out and cant get it loose.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

yea, the problem on mine was getting a prybar in there to it. usually i would gain access from the bottom but my skid is right in the way. only way i could get to it was straight through the frame which had little access.
