Hey I was recently wiring up a new head unit for my 2nd gen 07 model when I mistakenly hooked up the wrong wire. And when I turned the power back on the trucks gauge lights no longer worked when I turn the head lights on. I read the sticky for electronics but that didn't help me. I was just wonder if anyone knew how to help.

Start with the simple stuff, have you checked all of the fuses? Have you since corrected your wiring? Does the head unit back lighting work when you turn on the headlights?

Yes I have checked all fuses and I did correct it. So the head unit works fine. But gauge lights are still messed up.

Ok, was the wire you screwed up by any chance an orange with black tracer? There's an orange with white tracer coming off the vehicle harness that needs to be used for your head unit illumination. If you accidentally used the orange with black (the negative for the dimmer on your factory radio) or connected it to a positive lead, you may have grounded out and fried the dimmer switch.

If that's what you did, then you will need to replace the dimmer switch. I would take it out and test it first or look at it for any signs of elecrical damage. Give it the sniff test, if it smells burned or whatever then you have your answer.

First make sure you didn't accidentally hit the dimmer wheel and turn the dash lights off. Second, how did you check the fuses? If you did the visual check method I would get a test light or multimeter and actually test the fuses. I can't remember if there are any fuses under the hood related to the interior but I doubt it.

I definitely checked the wheel and it doesn't do any thing so that leads me to believe that's the problem. But I have only done a visual check on the fuses.
