Tacoma wont start

    i tried starting my car yesterday all i heard is a click and everything dies. i got a new battery but the same thing happened. if i disconnect and connect the battery, lights, radio, everything works, but wheni crank it once, it clicks and nothing works.

    Is a lift installed:no
    Is there an alarm system installed: yes there is
    When did you first notice the problem?:yesterday
    How often does it occur?:never
    What have you ALREADY replaced to try and fix it?:jump starting, new battery, cleaning terminals
    Have you checked codes?: nope

    Give the starter a few love taps with a hammer and report back. You don't have to be super gentle.

    Loose cables to the battery or to the starter?

    hahah nah, the positive terminal needed some surfacing on the two posts. i guess power didnt flow through. thanks though guys.

    Another very common starter problem is the solenoid contacts. As Colton suggested, tapping the stater will sometimes reseat the contacts (or brushes) so there is a better electrical contact to carry the high current necessary to start the engine. The most common problem is corrosion on the cable or battery terminals. An unhealthy or discharged battery can also make cranking a challenge.
