Blinker Help.

Everytime I turn on my truck, my blinker click sound starts to go without the blinker even being on. It happens before and after i turn on my blinker, and will keep going at a steady pace. I have checked to see if its the bulb, but they seem fine. Does anyone know if you can either turn off the sound or a way to fix it?
Thanks

When you hear the clicking, do any of the turn signals on the outside of the truck actually light up?

Do the turn signals work normally when you activate them?

Could it be that your hazard light button is pushed in?

-just asking.

1. No they do not light up, just the sound.
2. Yes, no problems.
3. Nope checked that first.

And the clicking is very fast, like the light is out, but i replaced them and they are fine.

Sounds pretty strange. Its like the flasher relay is being told to flash and is sensing a bad bulb at the same time.

You could try replacing the flasher relay and see where that gets you.

Just out of curiosity, what year is your truck and do you have daytime running lights that use the same bulbs as the front turn signals?

Oh. I just saw you have a 1999 and bed lights. Did you happen to splice the bed lights into the trailer wiring by any chance?

I'm not sure exactly where the blinker relay is located on the '99, but it's under the dash. You can probably follow the sound to the source.

Its still strange that it would be clicking by itself when you turn the ignition on[I'm assuming] It would seem that something is telling it to activate, but it would also seem that it would be lighting up something at the same time.

Here's a thought... The turn signal lever not only activates the relay, but also selects which signal to flash. maybe the switch in the lever that controls the relay is bad and is activating the relay all the time when neither blinker is selected. This would explain the fast flash speed of the relay when no turn signals are selected.

I will take a look at it all this weekend. Do you happen to know if its possible to just turn the sound off or disable it at all?

The only way I can think of would be to pull out the relay or disconnect the turn signal lever/switch from the wiring in the steering column. Either way would also disable your turn signals.

You also might see if there is a fuse for the turn signals, but this may disable other things as well.

I have seen some cheap foam earplugs at Lowes and Home Depot.
