Starts with key but not with remote

Looked all over for the thread I read a couple years ago about this issue but couldnt find it ,so I am starting my own thread .
2010 tacoma sport 4x4 v6 with 60,000 miles .
Spark plugs just replaced for first time ...3 denso,s and 3 NGK were removed and gaps inspected . All plugs were worn to .60,000 from the original .40,000 spec.
Installed fresh Denso plugs all gapped to .40,000
removed throttle body and cleaned spotless . While I was there ,the mass air flow sensor also got splashed .Battery was disconnected and fresh drive cycle has now been acheived .
Scan guage shows 14.5 volts on start up with ignition key but I havnt load tested the battery yet. Starter cranks great with command start and with the key.
No codes present with Scan guage
Compustar command start will not start the truck after 3 consecutive cranks .
Only way to get it started after the command start tries 3 times is to floor the gas pedal and crank with key .
I suppose my next step is a fuel injection cleaning and a fresh battery ?
I have already re-booted the command start to factory default .
Immobolizer issue maybe ?

 

Did you have a dead battery or disconnect it for something? Sounds like you may have to reprogram the tach.

 

i was wondering about that.........some autostarts are tach driven, time driven, or user preference

 

Sounds like the immobilizer function to me.

Try this: Put the key in the ignition and leave it off. Now try the remote start and see if it works.

 

Its most likely the factory battery ....5 years old . Still has good cranking mind you .

 

But you're saying the starter cranks with the remote start right?

So how could the problem be the battery?

I'm assuming also that you have a "chipped" key and if you made a copy of your key that does not have a chip, the starter would still crank but you could not start the truck with the new key.

 

battery has never been dead . I have disconnected it during my last tune up.About 1000 miles since the tune up .Terminals were cleaned and re-installed . The terminals were not that dirty

 

Got 2 keys with the truck and they both start the truck with no issues .
They are both original from factory

 

Well, logically speaking of course, If the starter cranks with both the key and the remote start, you can eliminate the battery and starter.

If I understand you correctly, when you try to start the truck with the key, the truck actually starts and runs. So you can eliminate any fuel or ignition problems.

The last thing is when you try to start the truck with the remote start, the starter cranks but the engine will not actually run. THIS is where your problem is, correct?

The truck will not start by remote .
Cranks 3 times and tries hard but no go . Starts fine with the key but I know the truck is flooded .
The remote has worked excellent hundreds of times in the past .

Ok, I was just making sure we were on the same page. It's pretty obvious that the problem is with the remote starter. Something has gotten reset or "un-programmed". I'm going to assume you disconnected the positive battery terminal when you were working on the truck. This may be what caused this.

Now, figuring out how to fix this is another matter.

 

There was a post similar to this a couple years ago . The guy had an immobilizer problem . Wish I could find it .
Remote start will crank for 25 seconds and if no start it will pause for a couple seconds and try again up to 3 times . After the 3rd time , the remote beeps 3 times to indicate that the truck didnt start . If the weather is warmer , the command start always manages to start the truck . When the truck starts in warmer weather , a signal is sent back to the remote beeping twice that the truck has started. Truck starts fine by remote in warmer weather.
Yes , I had both battery terminals off during the tune up to give them a winter cleaning .
For the hell of it , I am going to throw a fresh battery at this puzzle . The battery is 5 years old and although its been well maintained ,its my luck there may be a partially dead cell .As mentioned earlier , I havnt load tested the battery and to boot , its very cold where I live
