Hey yall, my auto xmsn shifter will not fully engage in any location; park, neutral, drive, etc.
it has over 150 K, is this a common issue and can it be fixed easily and or cheaply?
I was under my truck yesterday and just tapped the link sticking out from the xmsn and it went into neutral almost running me over, can anyone give info. Thx in advance.

I should ask if the transmission starts in park and Neutral ?
Does the transmission hold the wieght of the vehicle when parked ? Go to rear of truck while parked and see if you can push the truck ? does it hold ?
Sounds like the linkage is disconnected from the shifter

I would put the truck in park ,remove the ignition key ,go to back of truck and push truck to confirm you are actually in park . Block the wheels ,and try adjusting the linkage adjustment nutt so both the shifter and transmission are both in park . Judging from your explanation ,it now sounds like your adjustment is out .
Sometimes truck bodies start to sag .When this happens ,the linkage will go out of adjustment . If you remove that cotter pin shown in your picture ,you will be able to see how far out the adjustment is once everything is in park

Thank you so much, im assuming this will fix the shifter moving around when its in gear too? When im in drive, if I hit a bump or speedup my shifter moves around while in gear.

Almost sounds like there is something up against the shifter rod going down to the transmission . Do you have a body lift ? Check your transmission mount to see if the rubber is in good shape
Once you have adjusted the shifter rod so the lever on the transmission is in park and the shifter gate inside the truck is in park , The shifter will not move around providing all of the shifter gate parts are functioning properly .The ignition key must be removed when you make the adjustment
