There is an inherent design flaw in the slave cylinder. Like an aspirin, the URD solution fixes the symptoms (not the problem). If you catch it early the real fix is about $15.

It was like that since I got it new in 2001.

Feh. Enjoy your truck. Be happy. You've got like a 60k pwertrain warranty. Even if the throwout bearing prob turns up on your truck, the dealer will fix it for you under warranty. And there's no reason to think it will - it doesn't happen to everyone.

I recently sprayed Amsoil HD metal protector on mine as it dries to a waxy film. 4 cans did the entire frame and most of the floor pans. I used a spray wand extension that is sold by Eastwood to get inside of the frame. It's a spray nozzle that is attached to a, more or less, 2 foot Tygon tube with a brass tip that sprays in 5 directions. Definitely spray down something.

my 6 speed 2005 (bought new) has had the TO bearing replaced 3 times!! and it's only got 116K miles on it AND it's making noise again. Toyota fixed the 1st failure while under warranty. 2nd and 3rd times came out of my pocket. Just hearing about the after market URD kit now and that's what I'll go with for this 4th replacement.

After reading that so many other 6 speed users had this issue, I called Toyo and told them my story. They said there was nothing documented on this problem (sounds like BS) and there was no recall for it. but, I could take the tacoma to them to assess what the problem is and they could send that to corporate to see if they would do anything for me financially.

problem is at $125 hour, I'm guessing it will take them 2-3 hours label to take the tranny down, look at the issue and put it back together. then they'll send the results off to corporate Toyota support for review.

so, do I pay $300-400 just to have the analysis done and hope that Toyota then funds the install of non-toyota parts in my truck? and would they also, cover the $300-400 labor for troubleshooting the problem?

Has anyone had Toyota pay for this on a tacoma this far out of warranty?

Also, is there any longevity data with those who have installed the URD kit? How long/how many miles have people had them installed for with no recurrence of the dreaded noisey throw out bearing. My family has owned all toyotas since the late 70's and never had recurring problems like this. I had (2) 4 cyl 5 speed trucks prior to the 2005 that had virtually no problems. the 2nd one, I kept for 18 years and it was still on the original clutch! those older ones were both made in Japan - unlike the 2005 (California). the 2005 was also an all new design.

    anyone?? anyone?

26k on my 2014 and the clutch was squeeking in the hot summer but after a trip to the dealership I haven't had any issues with it again. My trans smoothed out a bit after about 4000 miles though it's still not as smooth as my last car's manual but it's good enough.

So you just want to complain. A part is a part, what difference does it make if it fixes your problem. This is a spring collar for gods sakes how silly can you get?
