Aw hell, I can remember when gas was less than a dollar a gallon if you can believe that. Of course, that was back in the '80s.

I cut my teeth on .15 to .20 a gallon gas for many years, they used to have actual gas wars, cruising the main street in town (this is the early 60's), looking for a party or a drag race on a lonely country road, times were different, gas was just a minor inconvenience to the pocketbook, now, you need to have a heavy wallet to travel and play...

Worked at a full service station in the early 70s and the prices were something like .25, .32, .38. Then the "Mid-East Oil Crisis" started under Jimmy Carter and the customers came in raising holy heck at the owner because the prices steadily rose into the .50 -.60 ranges.

I remember those prices (1970-72)... gas wars (when stations battled for business with under 25 cent prices per gallon)!

How about parents driving for blocks to save 2 cents per gallon (in the 30 cent range)?

I worked at a Arco station when gas first went to a dollar a gallon, and we had pumps that couldn't go higher than 99.9 cents! That was about 1978 or 79. Had to sell liters instead of gallons until new pumps were installed.

I pump that 91 octane for 2.99 beats that 4 dollars and some change couple months ago :notsure: So why the drop? I hope it keeps dropping and stays that way.

Remember the last election, and who won, big time?

Ever hear of the Keystone Pipeline?

Know how much oil is under North Dakota that will use the pipeline?

If you were Saudi Royalty, you would want to sell as much crude as you could before the North Americans told you to suck it, we have all we need right here!

Heck yeah, a lot of stations didn't have signs posted so we would be on vacation and Dad would pull through and look at every pump around to find out which place was the cheapest.

Back to the OP, one or two places have now dropped to $2.14, but somehow I am not happy with that after seeing a few "under $2" reports above.

2.35 in Mooresville, NC - if that keeps going down we will soon close all North American oil fields since it makes no financial sense to keep pumping it out on our own (it only made sense because the oil price was as high as it was...)

When I started driving in 87 gas was 75 cents . I was driving a 67 Pontiac GTO and my fuel gauge laughed at that when all we could afford to put in was five dollars . Ah those were the days .
