Certainly hope it's not a lemon. I've taken it on a few lengthy road trips and it's been fine. Will get it into the dealer asap.

Isopropyl is a hydroxyl and is highly soluble with water. Water and isopropyl cannot be separated completely by distillation so this means that they both evaporate together the alcohol has a much lower evaporation temp and it takes the water with it. That's the ideal to remove the water from fuel tanks. That being said two things make the addition fairly useless in modern vehicles one fuel injection the other the 10% blend in most automotive fuels. Years ago carb icing was a big issue with cars and trucks and still is with carbureted air craft.

I made an appt for next week. They are going to do the 5K service minus the oil change that I do myself. I told them about the very difficult starts as well as the driver side door rattle/whistle/wind/vibration noise. Maybe they will be able to figure out what is wrong with it.

Is there anything I should ask for/have done while they have the truck for the 5k service? That or something else to look out for?

    Thanks again!

sub'd this thread. Please post up the outcome after you go to the dealer. My 2014 has done the same thing to me. Probably only about 3 times now in 9,000 miles. Keeps cranking way longer than usual so i'll stop, then it will turn over when I try again.

I hope everyone is sitting down for this one...I took the truck in for the 5k service minus the oil change. they had it in for about an hour and a half and they told me that the tech could not recreate the condition and that if it becomes more of an issue to bring it right back in. So it looks like im on my own for a while or until I can recreate the issue on demand....

Yes that's what they do, BTW all there is to the 5k service (or at least what the dealer does) is change your oil...so I have no idea what they did besides "checking some fluids"
I brought mine in for a bumpy shift into overdrive under slow/moderate accel.---they had it for a day and gave me a Prius and told me it's actually not a problem and they can't recreate it. At least I have it in writing now just in case something happens after the warranty...

This is actually not that uncommon, and there's a decent sized thread about it somewhere on here. My 2009 did it off and on for a few years, but for some reason it hasn't happened in almost 2 years now. It's totally random and not able to be duplicated. I even cycled through my different keys to see if a chip in one of them was throwing an error randomly. I feel your pain - it drove me crazy too. But it seems to be a "characteristic" of some of our Tacomas.

Glad to see im not the only one experiencing this...Truck is great and I really have no other complaints, just quirky stuff and as long as it doesn't leave me stranded with the cold snap we're having up here in CT ill be good.

    Thanks for all the replies!

Could it be a defective battery? Try swapping it with a battery from another vehicle. The voltage you measured is the output from the alternator.

Truck is 3 months old. The dealer just checked all of that.

This exactly. My 2011 did it, and my 2013 does it. The 11 did it a little bit more often than my 13 does, but both were completely random with no rhyme or reason. Truck always started. Just took a bit longer those times.

Maybe try disconnecting the battery right after you park it and reconnect it just before you leave to eliminate some quirky voltage draw when sitting.
