emergency brake wont release

    i tried my emergency brake last week for the first time just to see it if worked and it did, ever since then the light on the dash that says "brake" wouldnt go off so i figure it wont disengage completely

    so tonight while trying to figure out what the problem was i pulled the brake again and now its fully engaged and wont disengage at all


    please help i need my truck, i just need to get it disengaged so i dont have to tow it to a shop or anything

    2000 toyota tacoma SR5 4 wheel drive AT 2.7 liter about 120,000 miles

    I had the same issue with my 98. I found the lever was frozen, meaning it had rusted fast. The lever is held in with a pin that you can drive out. Remove the pin (under the rubber boot) and clean the lever and bracket up. Then grease it with white lithium grease. I am not saying this is your problem but it is worth a check.

    On the inside of your rear wheels. There should be one on each side.

    i actually just went out there and tugged on the cables and used some WD40 and finally got them to release
