I put a nice football sized dent in the hood of my wife's Jeep Wrangler and the dealer says they can't pull it because they can't weld aluminum, and it is double walled so they can't pound it out, so it has to be replaced at $1,100 (new hood, paint, install, etc.).

I don't want to join another forum, so I thought I'd ask here if anybody has any ideas?

    Thanks

I questioned why a shop that works on cars with aluminum components can't weld aluminum and got the deer in the headlights look like I asked him what the square root of 113 was.

I am going to run it by a non dealer shop today to see what they say.

I think it is cheaper to buy an aftermarket and have it color matched.

What year and make/model of jeep is it?

and what is the square root of 113?

I have been searching "jeep parts", but they seem to only sell hood parts and accessories, not hoods.

I have no clue what the square root of 113 is.

haha dude, numbers don't become imaginary when you find them by hand vs. real when solved by calculator

I'm not rehearsed on the newer jeeps... but I'm puzzled.... alluminum??

Are you sure the dealer is correct in saying its made of alluminum?

    I smell some BS.

I'd call another dealer or shop to have that done.

I've never heard of a dealer who made excuses for body repairs. For the most part - if they're not equipped - recommend the local collision center.

And ...do they 'weld' dents? Aren't dents just pulled out and 'massaged'?

If you need a new one, always shop around at local junkyards, ebay, craigslist, and online of course.

I am assuming the welding may be to fill the hole from the puller.

why not try your local wreckers.....might have the hood your looking for in the same colour....it's worth a try....other wise take it to another privately owned body shop....they will be able to do something with it for sure....cheers

negative numbers have an imaginary component (e.g. what times itself will generate a negative: sqrt -1). So the square root of -9 is 3 * sqrt -1.

Grab it with a toilet plunger and pull it straight out. Get a good suction and it will pop right up.
