But... nowhere in the manual does it state just where this cabin air filter is located. Is there a cabin air filter for an '06 Tacoma - and if there is, just where is it to be found??

Cabin Air Filter
In the manual it states that the "Cabin Air Filter" should be changed in my '06 Tacoma at regular intervals (every oil change). Elsewhere in the manual it states that changing the cabin air filter can be done by the customer (i.e. I don't have to pay the kid (sorry, I should have stated "the factory trained Toyota technician") to do something I can do myself.
But... nowhere in the manual does it state just where this cabin air filter is located. Is there a cabin air filter for an '06 Tacoma - and if there is, just where is it to be found??

I don't think that's necessarily a cabin air filter, but it's a filter for the AC. According to my dealer, the AC filter just protects the AC system, and a Cabin Air Filter keeps dust/allergen's and pollutants from the entering the cab. Makes sense since my Tacoma's interior gets rather dusty, and I don't drive with the windows down or anything.

Cabin Filter
Hey Steve check into that every oil change thing, I was told every 20,000 miles or 24 months,
Also you might not need to remove the glove box, some of them you push the one side in (stop) and the box drops down on an angle. Then you can see the cover (one clip on both sides) take it off and pull the old filter out. |

My `06 Manual tells you about it.
I have no plan to change it anytime soon. I am not in a dirty enviorment. |

all air coming into the hvac duct goes through the cabin air filter..it does not protect the AC system it is only there to help filter the air going into the cabin. Pop the little door damper off the plastic nipple on the right of the box and pull down the box and there is a tray behind the box..If you put a dryer sheet down first the whole truck smells like clean laundry!!!!

I think in the manual it does say every 20k but I pulled mine out at 4000 and there were small leaves and dust in it already. I like the idea of a drier sheet. Have to try that one!!!!

And why would you want a truck to smell like laundry?
Trucks smell of cigars, beer and dirty laundry. Worn by occupants. |

i already changed mine out at 25k miles. it was getting dirty around 20k. i bought one shipped off ebay for like $12, whereas the dealers wants $35. all there is to it is popping the glovebox down, and there's a lil flap that snaps down about midway of the large black box straight in front of you. its just a thin, white filter. its supposed to be a "HEPA" filter and clean the air going into the cabin. if you look up "tacoma cabin filter" you should be able to get one for cheap, if you do wanna replace it.

If you're really inventive, you can go to your local upholstery shop and get some leather scraps. From there you cut the leather into 1/4 inch wide strips and lay them inside the folds of the filter. When the air passes through it, your truck smells like a new vehicle.

Old & Forgetful

Wow, checked mine today for the heck of it.... My truck is 1.5 years old with 10K miles on it.
That thing was DIRTY!! Holy crap!! I had a new one in the garage from when I swapped it from another one that I had (and didn't need) for another vehicle. So I slapped the new one in and I'm gonna take this dirty one to work and blow it out with an air hose and see how durable this thing is. I might even run some water/soap through it and allow it to dry till next year when I can pop it in again. I'll have two that I can rotate year to year. Here's some thread about people cleaning them. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...37#post2442937 Someone (like AFE) should start making washable cabin air filters. I'd buy one.
