Just curious, has anyone ever mixed synthetic and regular oil? Is there really a difference between the two?

    Hey folks,
I seen a lot of questions regarding the oil filter and oil plug gasket. I thought I'd post some pictures and specs.

For the 5VZFE, the filter I got at Toyota was #90915-YZZG1, made in USA. I paid $5.41 plus tax and they thru the gasket in for free.

It measures about 3 3/8" tall
    [IMG]

The oil plug gasket is a steel washer sandwiched between blue two fiber washers. It measures 21mm OD (.827") x 12.25mm ID (.4825") x 1.70mm thick (.067")

    Chris.. You need a disclaimer..
I had followed your guide a bit, and decided to change my oil with synthetic.
I ended up draining 4 quarts of my transmission fluid, putting 5 quarts of engine oil into the engine oil part, (total of 11 quarts in the engine oil bay), and then realizing.. So I drained all my engine oil, and refilled everything up.

Maybe if I had really studied your post, I would have been fine.

Is it okay if I don't have a replacement gasket? I'm not sure what shape mine is in, but I don't have a new one and I need to change it.

Also, I only have 5 quarts of oil, so I guess I need to go get some more... ugh.

You don't necessarily have to change it. they can last more than one change.

Thanks for this thread. I'm a newbie to working on my own vehicles, and used this guide to help me change the oil in my 2001 xtracab prerunner.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Toyota couldn't have put the oil filter in a worse place on the 3.4! :smack:

Thanks for the writeup though, Chris!

    ok, dumb question time.

isn't there a filter relocation kit for these engines?

I know long lines are not good but cant you relocate the oil filter about 4" or 5" away from where it is so you have clear easy access to it without adding and undue interference to the oil system?

im about to do my first oil change on mine tomorrow and have no visions of not having oil all over everything
