Yea...no kidding. Why don't they make the truck the way the customer wants it in the first place ??? Like how much would it cost to have the auto down power window also do auto up ?? I have other cars that do that. BUT...only on the drivers window. I guess it would cost an extra 4 dollars to have it do that. I'd pay it. I mean whats an extra 4 bucks after spending 30 thousand and change ?? Go figer.

If I want the key-in chime off I turn the key to ON, turn off the fan, lights and radio (if I don't want music). The chime stops after a few seconds that way.

Yeah, it's posted back a page or so. Let us know how that goes and if it works I'll add it to the table of contents and clean it up for a more "official" mod post. I don't really need it, and it's too damn cold out to be messing around with it! 17F and dropping.... damn NY weather!

Does not work...

Doesn't work.

The sequence works up to the point of #9 where the doors are supposed to cycle once. But instead the doors cycle twice which means it didn't work / do over.

I tried it 3 or 4 times and it's a no go.

It's not hokey pokey however because the sequence definately causes the key to be programmed. It could be if you kept trying then you'd get it. I know that's how it worked on my seatbelt chime. It took me a few tries.

Close but no cigar...yet.

Anymore clues please let me know. I'll keep trying.

thanks,
BUDDY

This is what I have

Program your factory keyless entry functions

Print

Rate ArticleHelpfulNot Helpful

For 2001+ Tacomas equipped with a factory alarm or keyless entry, here are some programming options that allow you to adjust the way your locks work.
The first programming option allows you to set the entry unlock to: (A) unlock the driver door with one push, and the remaining doors with a second push OR (B) unlock all of the doors with a single push.
1. Open the driver's door. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
2. (Complete these steps within 40 seconds)
A. Insert the key into and remove it from the ignition switch 2 times.
(IN - OUT - IN - OUT)

B. Close, then open the driver's door 2 times.
(SHUT - OPEN - SHUT - OPEN)

C. Insert the key into and remove it from the ignition switch 1 time.
(IN - OUT)

D. Close, then open the driver's door 2 times.
(SHUT - OPEN - SHUT - OPEN)

E. Insert the key into the ignition switch and leave it in.
F. Close the driver's door.
G. Turn the key from LOCK to ON 4 times, ending at LOCK
(LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK)

H. Wait for the locks to stop, then remove the key from the ignition switch.
3. On the key fob, press and release both LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time.
A. [For all doors unlock] press and release the UNLOCK button.
B. [For driver door unlock] press and release the LOCK button.
4. Open the driver's door. The programming is complete. If programming did not occur, start over.

The second programming option allows you to set the doors to lock when when the key is turned on, and unlock when the key is turned off.
1. Open the driver's door. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
2. (Complete these steps within 30 seconds)
A. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
B. Close, then open the driver's door 2 times.
(SHUT - OPEN - SHUT - OPEN)

C. Turn the key from LOCK to ON 5 times, ending at ON
(LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON)

3. Programming option (select one of the following).
A. [Ignition controlled lock ON] Close the driver's door.
B. [Ignition controlled lock OFF] Close the driver's door twice, leaving it closed.
(SHUT - OPEN - SHUT)

4. Turn the key to LOCK. The programming is complete. If programming did not occur, start over.

When performing the programming, the park lights may or may not flash to confirm that the program was accepted. The only way to confirm the programming is to test them to see if they are functioning as desired.
These procedures may or may not apply to pre-2001 models.

I have never tried this, hope it works. The numbering is slightly different so I posted it hoping you can get the desired effects.

Engine Bay Light

Here's my latest mini-mod.
I've been looking for an easy/cheap solution for an engine bay light. I liked the idea of LED strips under the hood but didn't care for the cost or zip-tying. Also, I wanted to be able to move light around in case I needed it in a specific location...here's what I came up with.

1.I purchased this Electro-Tek 12v 10w magnetic-mount light with 10 foot retractable power cord at KMart for $3. I actually bought 2. I might add the other later.

2. Cut off the cigarette lighter adapter. Unscrewed unit and painted it black with Plasti-dip rattle can paint.

3. Dremeled dummy switch to install lighted mini switch (Pepboys)

Engine Bay Light continued

4. Added an add-a-circuit ($7 Autozone) to the 10amp washer fuse and added a 3amp fuse for the light. Wired to power terminal on switch. Only hot fuse without ignition is the 20amp turn signal fuse (too big for add-a-circuit ).

5. Grounded switch behind kick panel.

6. Split ground (black) and power wires (black with white stripe) of light and run power wire to accessory terminal of switch.

All basic wiring but thought I'd write it out for those unfamiliar.

7. Ground black wire of light to threaded hole (8mm bolt). Need to add wire loom to white power wire.

8. Magnet holds light behind the engine fuse box. Clears hood struts and never moves.

9. Flip dash switch and enjoy plenty of light wherever you want it. All 10' feet of it for only a few bucks.

Photo with NO flash.

I'm thinking about doing the above mod, but putting a cigarette lighter plug under the hood instead of the switch. That way I can plug in my spot light at the front of the truck as well as that little work light. I already have a 12v outlet in the bed, so one under the hood means I could use either light all along the truck.

OH! ok. That sounds better. Good luck with the install. Several people have mentioned how it doesn't fit right and rubs. Hopefully your's will work as it should.

True. I could add that. I don't have any pics since I didn't do it myself. Could find a post elsewhere or just general instructions.

It is nice but... you better check a all inclusive option from GM (junkyard), there are several photos that shows the TILT HOOD LIGHTS and this mini mod you did to your underhood, the corded reel light I installed comes with a 24 foot long cable and with built-in on-off switch, here are the photos of both:

HOOD TILT LIGHTS from a GM truck (No Flash).

Corded Reel Light.

I got one at Wal-Mart for $4. Just waiting for it to warm up above freezing to install it! Got the light, cig plug, and a pin switch so I can leave it plugged in so it'll come on when I open the hood.
