i cut the wrong wire the first time and my truck wouldnt start. I spliced it, cut the other wire, and my truck runs fine...

It wont hurt if you try...

Just completed this mod and it works great! The only problem I Had was when I was messing with putting in a switch I set off the ABS and traction lights. I turned the truck off and back on and they were gone though. All and all a great mod. Tried and tested.

So I have an 06 TRD Sport and it does great off road, 4Hi or 4Loco, I dont think it has Trac or ATrac... There are no lights on the dash when I lose traction and it doesnt matter if 2H 4H or 4Loco. So if I dont have the Trac system in 4H will this mod do anything in Lo? I looked at the systems that come standard on the FJ Cruisers on Toyotas website, they have some sweet videos there describing not only traction aides, but suspension and transmissions and stuff too. I just dont know if my truck is too old to even have these systems onboard. As I understand the ATrac on the OffRoad packages is a switch next to the fog lights so its only on when you want it?

Thanks for the pics though, Im gonna take a look later today.

This was for trucks w/ TRAC, so if you dont have it, this will do nothing for you.

there are 05-08 trucks w/ VSC/TRAC, but they are few and far between. it was an option that didnt get used too much.

there were 05-08 w VSC none of them went the step further and had TRAC. Early VSC would limit throttle to prevent wheel slippage and limit throttle if the yaw was too great, but none of them would transfer power via braking system when one wheel or the other looses traction. Ive seen a few older Reg cabs with VSC and they def didnt have TRAC

From all the info i have gathered. I could be wrong...

So this is good for the '11 models built before december of '10? Just want some clarity. I don't mind doin this mod but I don't like bitchin somethin up accidently while trying to accomplish somethin else.

i think its ok for all 2011s it wont mess anything up. i cut the wrong wire and my truck wouldnt start, spliced it, no problem. pre 09 dont even have yellow wires there so thats a good indicator. look for the yellow wires...

for more confidence, go to toyotaowners.com - pay 15 bucks and get access to fsms and service manuals and -especially- exact schematics with wire colors for your exact truck.

Yeah, I know you can find some schematics on TTORA, but they're for a 2006, and the wiring harness changes from year to year.

Before I cut the wire on my 2010 reg cab 4x4, I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Here's a pic I just took. Do I cut the yellow wire that is second from the top here (where I'm pointing)?

    IMG_0311.jpg

I'm going wheeling tomorrow and wont have a bunch of time to fix things if this messes everything up. Here are the steps I'm going to do: 1. Disconnect the battery 2. Unplug that clip with all the wires going into it 3. Cut the yellow wire second down from the top 4. Connect clip back in 5. Connect battery

Is this correct? What if I dont unplug the white clip with all the wires going into it before I cut the yellow wire?

    Thanks guys!

Would a 05-08 TRD Offroad with rear locker be better than an 09+ TRD Sport with TRAC and wire mod?

If I hold the traction control button down to turn off traction control...would this in effect make the truck function in 4 LO with out TRAC if I have the Yellow Wire Mod? I have done the wire mod, and have not had a chance to test it out yet, but wanted to know if turning off traction control would in effect be like turning off TRAC.

Thanks I actually came back to edit my post since I found the answer in this thread. So I apologize for asking an already covered question. I hardly ever go "off roading" but this mod just seems to make the truck safer if I were to ever be in a bad situation. It would seem Toyota doesn't give us this feature to add more value to the TRD Off Road package? I went for the SR5 package over a TRD Sport since I could see no real benefits to the TRD Sport other than some eye candy. Not that the Sport doesn't look great...but the package doesn't add any capability to the truck like the Off Road package. Now I really feel I have the best of both worlds! Thanks guys.
