From my experiences, it is very hard to teach someone how a differential works with just a book. It usually takes showing someone with a model or video like this for it to sink it.

Ha that video was great I can't believe how simple it is...I watched my buddy in high school take his diff out of his 1940s willie jeep n remember thinkin man that looks complicated as he cleaned it and put it back together haha
