have a 1995½ tacoma 3.4 engine with 5speed trans. It slips in 3rd and 4th. Just after you let the clutch out. then it doesn't slip.
The clutch has 70k on it and suprises me that it would go out this soon. I have personally babied the clutch since I have owned it. Before the clutch got replaced the first time, there was a continuous squeak in the transmission at idle not moving when the clutch was released. When you barely push on the clutch, the squeek went away. well, that squeak came back at about 50k on the clutch that is on now and currently 70k now.

I have read a few threads about the transfer case stuck in Neutral. I don't understand what that would mean. I have checked by putting the truck in 4wd and the truck doesn't slip. Ideas? suggestions, or causes?

The squeak sounds like the throw-out bearing is going. Did you replace the clutch with a kit? What brand/type?

well, had a garage replace the throwout bearing, i'm pretty sure they replaced it, cause I was concerned about it then, now it's back. what would cause that squeak to come back so soon?

Cheap parts or abuse. And it sounds like you do not abuse it so I am inclined to say they may have used some cheaper (less quality) parts.

Are you saying that your clutch was replaced 70k ago?

Yes, the clutch has 70k on it, the truck has 170,000 miles on it now, a garage fixed it the first time. now seems to be going out again. this time it is slipping. there has to be another cause to this problem.
