Heater Fan only works on high

Anybody else had this problem? Heater fan only works on high setting. Not sure if it's the fan itself or maybe dirty contacts or something on the dial itself. Thanks in advance.

 

i had this happen in a 1990 toyota pickup.
It was the blower motor resistor. Napa had the part for me.

 

I agree. That problem is almost always the resistor.

 

It's the resistor. Mine went out a few months ago. A/C only blew on high setting. Truck was under warranty at the time - no charge. Otherwise, it's a quick job - maybe a DIY.

Thanks for the tips guys. Got the new resistor pack, put it in last weekend. It worked for about three days, and now I have the same problem again, it only works on high, and is somewhat intermittent. I don't know if the new part was faulty, or what. Anybody else had this problem repeatedly? I guess I'll see if I can return the part and try again. Oh yeah, Merry Christmas everybody!

 

Anyone find a fix for this... I'm having same problem now.

 

after I put the new resistor pack in, it worked for a while, then caput. Then one day my buddy was riding shotgun, and went to get something out of his pocket, pushing his foot up in that area under the dash, and low and behold the heater fan kicks on! So it turns out mine was a bad connection on the wiring harness that goes into(or right next to) the resistor pack. Haven't fixed it yet, but you may want to turn your fan on any setting but high, and reach under there and wiggle it.

 

Same problem... high speed only. Because of this thread I found the fan resistor block easy and took it out.... On the resistor block there is a spring loaded contact that is kept closed by solder. When it heats up the solder melts and the contact opens. You can fix it by holding the contact closed and resoldering it. Did that and fan works on all speeds. I think my drain hole is plugged and the condensate water collects inside the plenum (Where the resistor block lives) The water shorts it out and the contact opens. Really easy fix!!!!!!

Had the same problem.
Searched TW and found this thread.
In my case, it was a bad connection. I was able to scrape the connector a bit, then wiggle the connector onto the resistor.
Works fine now!!
TW saves me money with an easy fix, yet again!

Im having this issue. Blower fan ONLY works on high. Other speeds, nothing.

I replaced the resistor and it worked for 1 week. Then stopped again. I've checked the connections and nothing. I bought a new resistor again and installed it. Everything is working....

Just wondering if anyone has a picture of the connections that everyone is referring to?

Also, any other input on the debacle?

 

Just curious where all these bad resistors are coming from.

These are cheap enough I just use the Toyota ones .

Trying to use used ones always fails they break on the install or soon after.

 

These are what's causing my fan to stop. That's 2 times. And as you can see it's always the same wire connection. I did away with the plug and just use slip on connectors now. Still the same problem but longer time in between changing it out and only 1 connector to change
