Call around your/his local autozones or the like and see if they can wipe the codes. I know most can scan them just not sure if you can wipe them. Do you know what the code is because it may be something important and you may not want to ignore it.

Is it a check engine light or a "Maint Req'd" light?

Make sure the gas cap is on tight. The "Check Engine" light will come on if it is loose, then it might take a day or so for the light to go off.

It's a reminder to change your oil. There's a procedure to reset it. It's on page 159 of the manual. If you or your buddy don't have the manual let me know and I'll snap a picture of the page. This happened to me once and it's easy to reset.

I guess they changed it from 05 to 08. See if you have a "Gauges, Meters, and Service Reminder indicators" section.

With the key in the "Off" position, Push and Hold the ODO reset button. While holding it, tunr the key to the "On" position, without starting the truck. When the ODO displays "00000", it is reset.

for 05's its on page 152.

-Just says to turn the key in the "off" position so the odometer reading is showing.
-Turn the key to the "on" position and hold down te trip meter reset knob.
-Hold for at least 5 seconds, the odometer reads 00000 and the maint required light goes off.
