Tacoma Fuel Economy

Ok, there are about 5-6, err, 5-6 million threads on the internet about MPG/Fuel Economy. I am curious as to what Tacomas really get. I have heard 24MPG out of V6's and 16 MPG out of 4 cylinders... What kind of engine and what kind of mileage do you get...

4cyl <16
4cyl 16-20
4cyl 20-25
4cyl >25
V6 <16
V6 16-20
V6 20-25
V6 >25

The results derived from this survey will be inaccurate. For accuracy, only American members should vote or consumption should be measured in miles per liter and not gallons since the US gallon contains 3.785 liters and the Canadian gallon contains 4.546 liters.

Yes. There’s no such thing as a Canadian gallon, it’s the Imperial Gallon we use over here.

Well I'm just coming up on 5000mi and the mileage/distance per tank is getting considerably better. I did switch to Royal Purple at 3200mi, so I think it maybe just the break in. Thats including gear sets, tranny and me driving for mileage also.

I just bought a 2007 4 cyl manual Access cab and my first tank of gas produced 17.5 mpg. Obviously, I’m not happy with this so I spoke to the dealership. He mentioned that this is the break-in period and the mpg should improve. I also am using 10% ethanol, which he said will also reduce the mpg. I’m debating whether I should contact Toyota and discuss it with them. How long is the break in period and will I really see an improvement in time. Also, does ethanol reduce the mpg? Ethanol will reduce the mileage in any vehicle. When I lived in Colorado my Subaru and my Suburban got worse MPG than they did here in Texas. Colorado uses ethanol blends to help reduce emissions I think (someone correct me if I am wrong).

My last tank was spent sitting in Houston traffic, so I know it is crappy.

RAPOM, thanks for the encouraging info!

Rick2007Tacoma, let us know how that goes for you. Here is another thread you should look at MPG - 2.7L Manual 4x2.

I still need to get my first oil change. I am going to stop by the dealer on the way home. Synthetic here I come.

It reduces emissions and also gives more business to the corn growers out here in the midwest...

Well you can figure out your mileage using the US gallon.

Do gas stations specify if their's have a lot of Ethanol content? My fuel gauge show 1/4 full with 210miles. At this rate, I'll be at 15mpg. It got bad when the temp got to sub-zero.

It is federal law that all US gas stations have to display any additives in their fuel (even if it is a brand name) and the octane rating of their fuel (unless it is diesel which has a cetane rating). Colorado had stickers on the pumps that said something to the affect of 5%-15% ethanol.

Usually it is a state by state choice to have the ethonal. If I heard correctly, Missouri has a law that requires all gas stations to have 10% ethonal in their gasoline that they sell here... but I looked it up at www.ethanol.org and according to them it looks like Missouri doesn't have it in their legislation... then why can't I find gas with no ethonal????

I have heard that that a having an ECU re-flash may help the mpg. Since I bought my truck with approximately 100 miles on it, the ECU was set by someone else. Thus the behavior of the ECU was already set when I bought the car. Is this true, or will the ECU adjust to my driving habits?
