Try stepping on your parking brake, just enough to activate the parking brake indicator light on the dash. This usually works on most vehicles including my 07. However on the 07, you have to restart the engine for the DRL's to go off if they were already “ON”. Cheers.

not sure what you mean with the parking brake.. Every time I start the truck I would have to put the park brake on a little then start it.. or is that a 1 time then they are off for good fix? like I dont want them on unless I turn the lights on when it gets dark or when it is raining or snowing you know what I mean..

    Bowzerdoo77,

If you start your engine with your parking brake “on”, your DRL’s will not come on till you release the parking brake. Correct? On most other vehicles, you can turn off the DLR’s by activating the parking brake just enough to light up parking brake warning indicator on the dashboard. Same is true on the 07 Taco. However, the 07 Taco has to be re-started if the engine was already running to achieve this. I don’t know about the 04’s. Note that rear brake shoes do not bind (drum brakes only – not recommended for disc brakes) if the parking brake is latched lightly (1st or 2nd slot) so the vehicle can still be safely driven for short distances.

Be informed that DRL’s are mandatory under the Highway Traffic Act passed in the early 90’s. All vehicles manufactured from 1994 must have DRL’s on, while in operation. Hence, you would be in violation of the HTA by disabling them.

I am guessing you are talking about Canada. US does not have this act as my 007 did not come with DRLs. I wish it had, but it didn't.

WTF? I didn't know that. I though it applied to the US too since most of our cars are built over there. You learn something everyday.

SUCKS TOO! I am looking into the modification that adds the DRLs to my truck. I hear that it is extremely simple to do. I will post the results when I am done (read: when I have time and money - no time soon!). ;)

so you are saying that the only way to turn them off is to drive with the brake light on and bu lightly aplying the parking brake... there is not like a fuse or relay that will enable me to do the same thing?

That I don’t know. You could try to install an on/off switch on the wire that powers the DRL. I doubt just one fuse being allocated to the DLR's.

Are you doing the OEM way?

Or the 2 wire way listed in the cheap/free thread?
