Is their anything significantly different between the Redline MT-90 and the Limited-Slip Differential additive?

Besides one being new fluid and the other being added to however many miles you have on the current fluid, i dont believe theres any significant difference.

IN reference to other posts regrind ing rough shifting form 1st to 2nd:
    1. In my case the TSB did not solve the problem.
    2. There definitely seems to be a problem with the synchro which, at times, I can feel sliding into place in the trannie.
    3. I continue to experience an inconsistent and at time rough shifting sensation when shifting from 1st to 2nd.
    4. I have gone through mediation with Toyota and was told the shifting is "normal for a heavy duty transmission" which I was told is new for the 2005 model tacomas. Unfortunately I was not aware that I should have the transmission independently inspected BEFORE the medaition. I did not want to spend any of my own money and the Factory Trained Specialist advised me only to find other people with the same problem. He also told me that "the consumer usually wins"(paraphrase) in mediation.
    5. I currently mediate this problem by waiting 1 or 2 sec after depressing the clutch before I shift from 1st to 2nd.
    6. This definitely appears to be a design issue. Given Toyota's current response to this issue, it seems it will only be addressed by some form of class action lawsuit.

I just bought an 07 4 cyl Pre Runner 5 spd & I noticed the notchy shifting right off. I didn't think much of it until I read this thread. It was pretty much just a shift timing thing that I got the knack of to make it smooth. I did notice that you need to give it full pedal to make it a bit better though. Sounds like Redline is the nectar of the transmission Gods but I'd like to see if this bulletin (whatever # it is) has been done or not.

I too had this problem, but over time the problem has disapeared, or maybe I just got better at shifting. I think the big thing is to take your time shifting between 1st and 2nd as mentioned above - its a timing thing.

    A thing or two...
I have this problem in my 08, too. I took it to the dealership, and they told me it was normal. The mechanic said it was because of how thick the gear oil is when it's cold, and the synchro isn't getting upto speed quick enough. However, now that it's warming up, I've started noticing it occasionally going from 2nd to 3rd. Also, there have been a couple of times going into reverse has been really hard. Both times was right after starting the truck.

My 98 Corolla and 06 4.0 tacoma both have a few issues with 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. I always contributed it to the ultra low 1st gear. So now I just keep both rolling (just enough to move usually) and keep it in 2nd. I don't touch 1st unless I come to a complete stop, and as soon as it hits around 10mph I'm shifting to 2nd.

To me, first is ONLY useful for getting going from a dead stop. As in, just get the truck rolling so I can shift to 2nd.

Oh, my mom's 94 Camry and 04 Rav4 were the same way too so I always assumed it was a "toyota thing". NONE of them liked going into 1st unless the wheels stopped turning. Even creeping up to the white line at a stop. Always had to stop, then shift to 1st to get going again. Unless I could keep rolling slightly (pause for stop signs). Then I just kept it in 2nd.

Amsoil 0w-20 engine oil and Amsoil Full synthetic 75w-90 in the Transmission, transfer case, front and rear Differentials. AFE Cold Air Intake
Yeah the gear oil makes a big difference. I put amsoil full synthetic in my tranny and it shifts a lot better now...

about that squeaky engagement...wow I need to go get that tsb done before I hit 36k i'm almost at 32k now. I didn't realize there was a tsb for it and i've been meaning to go by and bitch but havn't had a chance. Mine squeaks on engagement sometimes and it seems to be worse in cold weather.

I think its more or less just a truck thing, i used to have an 03 mazda b4000 and shifting from 1st to 2nd was a bitch just like my 06 tacoma. Just take your time, they're not sports cars

..also depends on the way u drive or the weather or conditions, i drive manual since i was 12 years old, and all cars are different, the gear oil its really important but sometimes also the age of the truck change everything, and the way u used the schift ,cause its also really rought when its new, and when u not drive it like for long periods, its like they get stuck, ....but i love manual vehicles, i get bored on automatics.

I have to admit. My auto is boring (first one in 10 years), and I miss my 07' Tacoma.

On the other hand - I now have a free hand. ;)

Yeah, I'm convinced that's what it is. First gear on these V6 trucks is LOW, I mean it's FRIGGIN LOW. Yeah I don't put it in first unless I'm at a complete stop. I had this same problem, but I've just figured out how to shift this truck to avoid this issue now. It was pretty rough the first couple of weeks. A heavy duty tranny coupled with a low 1st gear does lead to rough shifts untill you figure out how to smoothen it up.
