Lsd

I have an 07 sport and am wondering if anyone can help me with my LSD, not actually with my LSD but the best way to use it, when it kicks in, how I know it has kicked in, etc. It is there but I have not noticed it working. Maybe I am not supposed to know it's there, help thanks!!

More on the question I thought of after, does the lsd work in 2wd? all 4wd ranges?

You'll know it kicks in when the sky turns purple and the grass is red. Then you realize you've spent the past hour talking to a 8 foot tall raccoon about Reagonomics and the effects it had on interstellar beings in Spanish...Oh wait you mean Limited Slip Differential, that you'll know starts working when you hammer on the gas and all of a sudden you get traction from both wheels and take off in a hurry. Lucy in the sky hehe.

While I appreciate sarcasm more than most and use it ten times more than most, essentially what I am asking may sound like a stupid question to most, it actually isn't because for example, when on snow, the typical driving style is to let off on the throttle then gently apply throttle until you gain traction. Well under these circunstances, how do I know if the lsd is kicking in? I have tried to keep throttle steady waiting to feel a change and just haven't felt any difference, hence the question on here.

You most likely wouldn't notice the change, especially on ice. In order for it to engage it needs at least one on the tires to get traction. I don't have a lot of experience driving in snow, being that I'm in central TX, but I would think you still need to pump the gas a bit till one tire grips then the LSD can do it's job.

Again, I appreciate the help, my question was more in tune to how do you know when it is working, can you feel it from a driving position or does it just work without your knowledge. As I say, I know mechanically how they work etc, just not the feel. I haven't really noticed a difference from normal rwd driving and wonder if the thing even works, thanks!! Please also try to help with if it is supposed to engage in 2wd or not, thanks.

He is not talking about a rear locker. He is talking about a limited slip differential. Difference! The LSD should work in both 2WD and 4WD (Hi or Lo). As far as what it feels like when it is engaged, not sure, but I think the idea is to not feel it.

The only thing you will notice is that you have traction and yes it is working in both 4wd and 2wd. What I was trying to get across before was that you shouldn't notice a difference if it's active, it comes on when one tire slips, takes power from that tire and puts it to the one getting traction so that the one slipping gets traction. You will not feel it; it kicks in automatically when it's needed.

Limited Slip Diffs are desighed to operate smoothly and apply traction to the slipping wheel as needed. They do not suddenly enguage so there is no feel. The only way to be sure they are working is to put one wheel on a slippery surface and throttle up and see if one wheel spins and the other sits still. If the truck moves without spinning one wheel, all is well.
