Help with AC - Socal

What better place to turn than TW with all the people on here with knowledge that far exceeds mine. My AC is out in my truck, has been for awhile. I can deal with it no worries. The problem therein lies with the fact that I'm about to have twins and where I live (by Miramar) it gets hot as balls. Not the best thing to have some newborns cooking in your truck while you have to drive somewhere in the dead of summer.

When I had my last major service done, the stealership ran their dye through my system and sure as hell there was a leak on the bottom hose. Basically I'm asking for help. If anyone knows the intricacies of the AC system and would be willing to help/teach me how to fix it and then recharge, it would be most appreciated. I am trying to go this avenue due to the fact the stealership said they wanted 220 IIRC to fix it. If anyone would be willing, let me know. Just let me know what parts to get and what beer you like. I'm trying to get this done before mid-late April since that's about the time we're due.

thers no aftermarket companies that will make the part for you?
ac is a very complicated thing
you have to vaccumm the lines first
and then recharge
but since you have a leak now
you need to get a new reciever/drier
once you hook everything back up you can then install teh drier and tehn get the system vaccuumed to about -25 but if you can get it down to -30 that would be best but impossible ahah
after that you can recharge
im sure if you go to the local colleges that have automotive programs tehy can help you with that
cause i know at mine they do but i dont know if they even have freon in the first place

 

Sweet, how much do they usually charge? I guess I'd go with the part from TECH and then go from there. Don't know about any AEM

usually the colleges wont charge but they do take a while to install it
but go ask and see
im pretty sure it will be free
especially if you get real good with the instructor
i guess a good tip lol
if i had the vacuum and the gauge id totally do it for you but i dont so yeah sorry man
hopefully you get it fixed soon dont want the younglings to get heat stroke
