I read a guide for a FJ Cruiser and it used a 35mm. I believe the Tacoma and FJ are the same.

BTW, the torque specs. for that nut is 173 ft lbs!

thanks for the reply...i had thought i researched enough to get the right size, but have read some conflicting information. just trying to be prepared for any future issues...seems the wheel bearings aren't one of the strong points of our trucks.

can anyone confirm that the axle (spindle) nut is indeed a 35mm?

It is definitely a 35mm. That's the socket we used when changing the axle and front diff bearing.
