check engine light

Driving down the road going about 55mph then the old check engine light came on. Went to the nearest advance auto and read the code. It read as follows

Evap Emission
Control system purge
Flow fault malfunction
Control system vent
Circuit Malf

All I have for a manual is the hanes book for my old 2000 and the 2002 I thing is a little different system. I have checked all the hoses for holes and it looks good as well as the gas cap gasket. I assume my next job will be checking the purge solnoid thing. I someone knows anything let me know.

Yeah it runs mint if it wasnt for the light i would never had known

 

My dad aways suggested putting tape over it in that situation

An '02 so OBDII, right? Should have gotten some numeric codes with those descriptions. Best bet is googling those. They are standardized so you can cross reference a lot of different makes and models with similar controls.

Sometimes those can be a pain to trace if it is a cracked or loos hose or a loose wire, etc.

where is this located on our trucks, also how can you tell if its faulty?

 

Make sure your gas cap is tight!! Till it clicks. Had check eng. light happen to me. Gas cap fixed it.

 

Get the code number (P####) and go here: good info! You can post the code numbers here also.

 

yep....first and easiest thing to check....then get the code number if it aint the gas cap.

 

If it's code P0441, take a look at your charcoal canister for cracks. Becoming a common probelm on the '01 and '02 Taco's with the Evap canister under the hood.

 

The Toyota stealership told me that the evap canister needs to be replaced. He informed me that it is under my truck bed and he needs to remove the whole bed to get at the canister. What do you think?
I have an 03 reg cab 4x4.

 

I dont think the bed has to come off. The canisters usually just bolt to the frame. I'd get a second opinion.

 

Now they told me that the frame needs to be replaced.
