Blacking Out Tailights - Alternative to NiteShades?

    aftermarket Awia CD/MP3 head unit with aux input, Kicker 5.25" rear speakers, homemade cold air intake
    Is there an alternative to using NiteShades on the Tail Lights? I've read about using Krylon on the Head Lights, but that's on the inside, unlike using NiteShades right on the outside.

    Also, anyone get a ticket for doing this? I'm a little concerned about driving passed a PMS-ing cop.
