    Greetings all,

New here, and just started 'searching' for this question, but also wanted to expedite my query by asking too.

Just bought a '10 Tacoma DC TRD Off Road 4x4 short bed and am wanting to provide a 1-3" lift (probably only 2").

I've read some polls regarding this and it's a general understanding that block lifts are not preferred. Nevertheless, my driving style is primarily street with the occasional dirt and snow covered roads. To be honest, my wanting to lift is more form over function.

With that said, I'm looking for insights to the best method to provide a 2" lift that will 1) be relatively safe, and 2) provide a 'leveled' appearance.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Rick

OME 3" lift, ARB bumper,DTRL, CB radio in console, 5lb fire extinguisher in bed. SockMonkey decals, Allpro rear bumper, UWS 42" bed box, Wet Okoles all around, snorkel, Pioneer Av3200, ..yadda yadda yadda
Bilstien 5100's would be a good inexpensive option for you. You could also go with a spacer lift and an AAL or block in the rear (not recommended on the spacers) sisnce you have an O/R, I'd get an OME 3" kit. Are you plannng on adding any kind of aftermarket bumpers?

Welcome to TW by the way.

bilstein 5100s set at 1.75" in front and get a 1.5" or 2" add a leaf for the rear. get some 265/70/17 tires and you'll have yourself a good looking stance

check out the pictures of my truck in my gallery. I am running this exact setup but with the fronts set to 2.5. The rims are also 17 inches. Same size tires as quoted above. Total lift cost not includind rims and tires was around $400. Should give you a good idea of what your truck would look like.

Yup! That's what I'm looking for...minus the 17" rims (Nice setup by the way). I already have BF 276/65/16 Mud Terrains sitting in the garage from my last truck. Plan on slipping them on this fall and doing the lift as well. Sounds like I need to seriously consider the Bilstein 5100's and a leaf set up. I was kinda thinking of just going with el-cheapo spacer/blocks. Other than being able to adjust front height, what are the advantages of going Bilstein over spacers?

    Thanks

oops, i read your name and assume you had a TRD sport with 17in wheels. even though your post mentioned off road, it's early...

    lol...$0.

I'm always contentious about money spent vs. what it's used for. If i were gonna move back into 4wheeling again (had a Dodge Power Wagon years ago), I'd spend the money to really go off-roading. But that's not the case now. Honestly, married, two kids and other hobbies steer me away from that. My goal now is to at least create what I consider a good looking Taco 4x4 with some abilities to handle off road, which will primarily be work related. No bogging, sport hill-climbs, or serious trail riding.

Currently eying the following: or Needed to add, I will be doing the work myself. My previous career was an A&P mechanic.

    @Reaper10
I really like your truck setup! Just one question though, what is you gas mileage like with the lift?
    Thanks!

After some reading, I've come to see that what I am wanting is not technically a 'Body-Lift', rather a suspension lift. Because I don't want to mess with the suspension settings, I'm looking to add a 2.5" block (as opposed to an AAL) under the leaf spring and a 3" riser between the front shocks and the shock mount.

Thank for the props, Gas mileage definitely suffered a bit with the lift and bigger tires. Not too terrible I'm still able to squeak out right around 300 miles per tank. Most of my driving is all city miles too so that kinda counts against me.

i'd advise against any blocks. i've heard nothing but bad things about them adversely affecting ride quality. go with an aal.

    case in point: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/98341-new-issue.html

NICE find! AAL over blocks is a no-brainer now.

Same as Eltaco, my concern then is how much more does an AAL stiffen rideability?

    Thanks for the find!

an aal will stiffen the rear a little bit, but it's not bad. it fixed my back end clunking and bouncing when going over big speed bumps.

are aware of the rear spring TSB? having the dealer perform this will replace your rear leaf springs with upgraded ones and will raise your back end up as well.

Mine does have 3 springs. I'll call today to have this corrected...Thanks.

Any idea how much lift to be gained from this? Seems minimal.

I wonder if installing the AAL 2.5" lift would satisfy the TSB? Better yet, maybe have the dealer satisfy the extra spring with a 2.5" lift ;)

    Never hurts to ask...
