Is a 2 ton jack sufficient for my Tacoma, or do I need to go with the 3 ton jack?

sufficient as far as weight capacity...it will struggle, but work fine.....problem you will more than likely run into is that it will not have enough lift height.

2 ton is pretty lightweight, and it may not have enough vertical lift without blocks (which you should avoid using for safety). I have an Arcan 3.5 ton I got at Costco for $89 (Northern Tool has it too, but for about $135) and it is pretty effortless, and great control on lowering. Others have been happy with it too. Check out the garage forum. ;)

i had a 2 1/4 ton that i think had 15 inches of lift. it worked fine on teh back (under the axel), but i had to use a block of wood to get the front. i now use a 3 ton that has 21 inches of lift and it works like a dream. i'd say 17-18 would probably be enough for the factory jack points.

x2 on what kevin said. and you can't beat the price.

$80 + 20% off with the cupon you can get in just about any magazine now this is the one i have. i probably use it twice a week, so it diffinately gets put through it's paces. it get's some pretty heavy use on the weekends too becasue i'm usually helping out friends. great quality and takes a beating. it's a little on the heavy side (abotu 80 lbs), but for a home use jack, that's not really an issue.
