Can somebody tell me WTF this wire is!

I pulled the a/c face plate off and behind the passenger side of it was this yellow plug not plugged into anything. Can somebody tell me where it goes or what it goes to?

 

So what would it plug into?

 

awesome! ok I looked at the ac cover thing and there is a open fake plug spot for it.

I have a 09 tacoma for a work truck and i was switching the all black center console for my silver one.

 

I have the wire loose as well and I do not have the on/off switch.

 

DC's don't have the switch. There's a sensor in the passenger seat to sense the weight in it.

 

I remember seeing it when I switched out stereos and being freaked out because I had nothing to plug it into. That's how I found TW.

 

Vehicles with a full backseat do not require the switch, because the car seat will be placed in the back. Reg cab and ext cab trucks have the switch, because you don't want the airbag going off if there is a child seat in front of it. The sensor in the seat can only tell if there is weight on it, but it does not know if is from an adult or a child seat. The sensor is there to prevent the passenger airbag from going off if nobody is sitting there during a crash. My guess is the insurance companies lobbied for that one.

 

What year is it? I don't remember when the policy went into effect. Also, maybe the Tundra has enough room in the back for a child seat. My 2004 Silverado had the switch, so they've been around for awhile.

A law was passed in 1995 that allowed car manufacturers to install a switch to turn off the passenger airbag. This was a recommendation by the NHTSA. However, I guess it is up to the manufacturer to decide if the switch is needed. Maybe Toyota did not think it was needed in the larger Tundra, but was needed in the Tacoma.
