CB systems??

No real clue what to look for or brand or components needed. Please help.

Heard uniden was a good brand.

 

Uniden is good. I have a Cobra 140 gtl. I use the sideband a lot because you have much more range. what are you going to use it for..just listening to truckers,or using it for talking to friends on wheeling trips. Antennas some like fire sticks some like magnet mounts. you don,t have to spend a lot of money on a radio but from my experience a better antenna will make any radio better. I picked up my cobra on e-bay years ago and it works perfect. I,m sure other people will chime in and give you there opinion. A lot of different combos will work for you. And what is your budget

 

Yea I plan on using it for wheelin and to maybe listen to truckers sometimes. I prob won't use it a whole lot. So bang for buck is my thoughts. Just something that will work in a bind and transmit far enough to do some good.

 

Cobra is an excellent brand as well. I recently installed a Cobra 75 in my truck. Works great with my 3 ft Firestik antenna. The Cobra 75 is a bit pricey, but it's all in one unit and takes up minimal space in my truck. I use it for short range communication while off roading. I don't need to talk to somebody 5 miles away...

 

A straight AM will work best for you..I use the side-band mostly in Vermont and Maine when you want to reach out to 30-50-miles while in hunting camp. but invest in a good antenna and make sure your SWR is good..good luck

It is, you just don,t have some of the bells and whistles. If he is not using it try it. you only will have to invest in a antenna. some of the older ones are big and some people have a hard time finding room in their taco for one. SWR is standing wave ratio.. you tune your antenna to your car -truck-radio. Its just like having a good fm antenna compaired to a shitty one

I think that i would go with the Cobra

 

i bought a cobra from rightchannelradios.com a few weeks ago. The kit came with the radio, handset, antenna, and cables...thought it didnt come with a grounding cable for the antenna. Anyways that site has some pretty good beginner info to check out.
