Just wondering who's running a Linux desktop OS and what distro are you using?

I am running Fedora 12 as a Linux Webserver...works great - very stable! And it's fun to learn Linux CLI stuff!

If I stop toying with the truck all the time I might get Ubuntu up and going again.

Pretty good mix so far. I'm running Linux Mint 9 LTS (Long Term Support) on my Dell desktops as well as the laptop. I've tried Mint 10 and it's great. However the repositories for 10 don't have 'Wine Doors' available, whereas it's still available in the Mint 9 LTS repositories. Some have suggested 'Play On Linux' as a substitute Wine frontend, but 'Wine Doors' is still the best so I'll stick with Mint 9 LTS for that and other reasons to 2013, at which time the next Mint LTS offering will be available.

As far as usability, with Wine and VirtualBox installed the two programs I use on account of my work, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator run seamlessly on my Mint desktop. Everything else I want or need is available with Mint, either preinstalled or in the repositories. And not having to worry about virus infections, malware, registry cleaning or defragmenting hard drives is a HUGE step up from Windows!

You guys running an older version of "Ubuntu something" should seriously think about updating to the new Ubuntu 10.10 'Maverick' that was just released. If you're stuck in the past with Ubuntu you don't know what you're missing by not updating! Click this link to check it out: http://www.ubuntu.com/

10.10 ubuntu, linux mint. Have dabbled in most of the distros out there except SUSE.

I'll wait until the next LTS. It takes too long to tweak everything and get it all working after a clean install, and upgrades are never as fast for some reason.

This has been my beef with Ubuntu. If you upgrade your tweaked version too much all at once it seems like it doesn't work as well. I've tweaked so many things that I don't remember what I did anymore. A fresh install works better, but then I've still got to re-tweak everything. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 at work and have it in virtualbox on my mac. Probably won't upgrade my work computer until either I get a newer video card or Ubuntu makes my old video card work better.

I used to have a checklist back when it was necessary to reinstall Win98 every few months.
