I am trying to decide what to buy for my family this xmas. I have a 10 year old boy and an 11 year old girl. I have a 42" LCD TV but I don't have a Blu Ray player so the PS3 would be cool because it plays Blu Ray. However, if the Xbox 360 is much better than the PS3, I could always buy a Blu Ray player later on.

Anyway ..... which do you recommend? I am interested in the new motion controllers that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 offer.

    Cheers.

PS3 all day long. Built in Blu Ray player, free internet, great user-interface, and just a great system overall.

It will probably be hard getting an honest opinion on this lol. Some people are pretty die hard with their preferences. I have a PS3. Nothing against Xbox for me, I've just always had Playstations so it's just routine to pick up the next one when it comes up. Plus there's never been any games personally that I've wanted that were exclusively for Xbox either. I think I use the PS3 more for the Bluray player than gaming sometimes. Unless there's something you want that's only on Xbox I'd just go with the PS3. Not sure what Xbox can do as far as streaming but you can stream Netflix and that sort of stuff to the PS3. Although I use my Tivo for Netflix myself, but still something to consider.

Free online play?? What do you mean .... does Xbox charge to play online games??

We have a Wii and we play online all the time for games like Mario Cart for free.

    Oh .... what's RROD??

    Thanks.

I have a 360 and yeah it is a pain in the butt to pay for that stuff and all, but I've never really had any major issues with it.

But I do see myself purchasing a PS3 in the near future.

I'm pretty sure it's around $50 a year to play online and get the same benefits that you can enjoy on the PS3 for free.

Yes its called xbox live and requires a gold account to play games online. prices range from $19.99 for 3 months or $49.99 - $59.99 for 12 months.

The new xbox 360 has built in wifi just like the PS3 or the wii.
RROD is red ring of death and the new 360s do not get it. Besides microsoft will repair any 360 with RROD for free.
Just do some research on PS3 and the 360 and see which one fits your needs.
I give my PS3 away last year cause all I ever used it for was watching DVDs.
For serious gaming get a 360 and for those watching more DVDs than gaming get a PS3 LOL

Yea...xbox controllers feel unnatural. Might be because I'm so used to the Playstation controllers, but having the left analog stick where the D-pad goes just...it just ain't right!

Alright then .... I was thinking that the Blu Ray would be good to have. Also, after hearing that you need to pay for the online Xbox play, I'm definitely going with the PS3.

Any suggestion for PS3 games that a 10 or 11 year old would like?

    Thanks!
