It just came in to the DC it will run some type of web application I'll have to look in the build ticket to see what application specifically. They like it because it on takes up 4u in a rack.

IT for a K-12 school district here. Savoring my final two weeks before the kids and teachers come back!

Been balls to the wall busy here at our school district. 700+ new computers being deployed, I've imaged and setup 3 labs by myself this week :goingcrazy:

Sounds like a bigger district than mine. We have around 1000 PCs and laptops total.

Been working on new student accounts this week, SIS stuff for the new year, got a few servers I want to finish building up this weekend, etc. Summer's always busy but I love the time with no interruptions from teachers and kids.

One of these days I need to work on WDS so a little more of the stuff I do by hand when imaging can be automated, but who has time?

Its been busy for us also at my job. In the last two weeks we have racked, cabled, and configured 100 devices. Most of the normal servers but some Netapp stuff, cisco nexus gear and Cisco UCS stuff. Not sure what it is about this time of year because I'm not in a school district but we are super busy.

Maybe because July 1 was the start of the new fiscal year so money from last year was used up and the new budget from this year allowed them to buy all kinds of new devices?

I am still pretty new at my current company but I was told that we get a huge rush of traffic this time of the year and the beginning of the year. I work for a VERY large internet company in their two data centers here in Phoenix.

    Heh, funny.

The reason I said that: Me and my boss were the _entire_ IT dept for a private tradeskill medical school...we had 15 locations in 8 states, from the north end in PA to south FL and west to to TN.

We did this for over 4 *years* in the early 2000s.

    Those were the days....

We're pretty rural. 6 Schools and <2k students here scattered over 200+ square miles. We have 2 1/2 (one is half time) IT people TOTAL here, including myself. I tend to do about half network/server/back-end stuff (which I greatly prefer) and half break/fix stuff.

Teachers are just starting to show up here. They are officially back late next week. Students the week after.

Lots of folks don't realize how much of the internet runs on linux.

Between apache and various server OSes, literally 2/3rds of the internet is *nix based. Shellshock is potentially very, very bad.

Thankfully, I dont' have any hardware that is vulnerable. But my best friend is a fraud manager at a large Oklahoma credit union, and he reports to the COO...who is also the CIO, and they're going 24/7 till they're all patched up. They are NOT happy campers. They found out about this Monday, I think.

We did the same thing Wednesday into Thursday. Patched about 8,000 devices in two days.

Ended up finding a copy of PacketTracer through a friend. So far haven't really jacked anything up on any of the Prod switches.
