iPhone impact on wireless carriers

An interesting article showing the iPhone is hurting the wireless companies bottom lines.

They charge a fortune just to use a cell phone so that makes me feel good knowing I have an iPhone. I think they will be just fine

 

Oh they'll definitely be fine. They'll just charge everyone to make up the difference. According to the article, the iPhone is the primary reason unlimited plans have gone away.

 

iPhones, and iPads. can you imagine if everyone could stream unlimited video/Pandora though 3G. It seems like 75% of cell phone owners have a smart phone and most of them are now iPhones.

 

It's actually close to 50/50 in terms of total market share between android and the IOS phones (48% for Android, 43% for IOS). For new phone sales, android is 57% vs 34% for iphones. Of course, IOS consists of the iPhone alone whereas android is many vendors which is why it seems like they are so prevalent.

I remember an article way back when AT&T was the only vendor that had the iphone. They stated that about 65% of their wireless data traffic was due to the iphone itself.

Maybe they should give up the subsidy on the iPhone. Apple fans have shown they will put down the money for the hardware. Why then does it need to be subsidized? Kinda like giving out food stamps for caviar, IMO. Unless there's a catch! Reason enough for me to stick w/my dumb phone.

 

the 50/50 seems to make sense but android consist of like what 20-40 phones and the IOS is just iPhone. kinda funny when you think of it. and the iPhone is doing nothing but get more popular. I have about 7 or 8 friends that had android and have since gone to iPhone and said they will NEVER go back. The iPhone will pass Android sometime in the next 2 to 3 years.

 

mmmmkay. Samsung actually sells more smartphones than Apple.
