I take personal issue with MOST cell phone manufacturers and providers these days. I have a problem with the way they run their businesses and design their products. It's one of those "I'm not racist, I hate everyone the same" kind of things. The technology is out there to make phones way more durable than they are. Why don't they? They want you to break them and buy new ones. Used to be that if somebody designed a high quality, durable product it would be touted as the best and everyone would buy it. Cell phone manufacturers all do it differently. They make puny, weakass phones that break all the time or malfunction, etc etc etc. Sure, sometimes electronics have problems, but are cell phone manufacturers taking every step to build durable, quality products? You can bet your ass they're not. On top of all this, they come out with the "newest thing" that everyone has to have. I just see a lot of greed and consumer manipulation in these companies. It's all about the money... and don't even get me STARTED on providers (long story short, :brianr: providers!).

I ditched my old 3GS earlier this year for the iPhone 5, the phone I am typing on right now. The 5 is better in every single way than the 3GS, it's a really great phone.

With that being said, I will wait and get my penny out of this phone before I get the next iPhone 6s or 7 or whatever. It's too good as it is to just get a new 5s so I get a fancy paint job and home button. Even though the 5s is 2 times faster the this one, the 5 is still fast as hell.

My iPhones get slow after a little while. I think they have a timer in them that slows them down over time. Then you have to get the newest iPhone. I move my fingers faster than the phone can keep up now.

Theoretically it's faster but the average user would probably not see it. It's faster at processing, not downloading. With apps the way they are, the only difference you'd see would be multitasking. Unless an app is written to take advantage of it 64 bits, there will be no difference (it could even be slower). PCs experience the same thing when going from 32 to 64 bits. My wife's 4 is still plenty snappy opening and moving around in apps. In our experience, the processor is not the bottleneck.

With Apple, it usually always best to wait for 2 phone cycles (4 to 5 skip 4s; 5 to 6, skip 5S). Only when there's a huge technology difference would I recommend switching (e.g. 4s to 5 because of LTE). However, especially with iPhones, you can usually sell your current phone for nearly what you paid for it, making the upgrade cost minimal.

They could, and obviously they want you to buy a lot of their product so that they get richer. But you have to realize that there are many 3rd party manufacturers that make cases for these new phones. The iPhone and its competitors spawned a whole market for accessorizing cellphones.

Majority of cellphones today are touch screen with glass screens, more scratch resistant than plastic, but they crack and so on

Yeah I knew that, you won't notice a difference until more demanding tasks are being preformed by the phone which would max out the 5. Before I got rid of the 3GS, I noticed how it was struggling with new apps and stuff. Also going from 3G Internet to 4G LTE is a world of difference. I would never imagine that such speeds were even possible. A few years back

Personally I feel this way about all phones. Every Android phone phone I've had has taken a shit of some sort after a year or so (I still prefer Android though). It's why I have an iphone5 for the time being. My galaxy nexus started acting up and I made an impulse buy out of anger. Except for the reliability so far I liked everything as about that phone better.

That's why I upgrade. Not b/c the phone doesn't work anymore. Just b/c I can sell my current phone for the upgrade cost.

My iPhone has been in a case pretty
Inch it's entire life and is flawless. I've just recently begun carrying it around without a case and I'm fairly careful.
Thinking I might jump on this. Or perhaps I should wait for the 6 to comeout.

In the world of smartphones, 2 years might as well be a decade. Most Android's aren't officially supported after 2 years either. It's usually the development community that keeps them going. My old HTC Incredible (2009) officially stopped at Gingerbread (2.3.4), but the community has kept the phone up to date.

Exactly. If Android was only released on Motorola hardware, I wouldn't be as happy.
