Anyone have or thinking about getting a 4 K TV? They have really come down in price and are cheaper than HD was at 5 years ago. I know not many choices of 4k programming though. Also there is something about an 8 k chip as opposed to a 10 k chip whats up with that?

...who's making content at that resolution?... OTA broadcasts are 1080i (HD) at best I think... cable is probably worse (don't know, as I got rid of cable years ago), ...if you are going to get one, i'd want to get one w/ a good image processor/scaler because most everything you'd be watching would have to be scaled up tremendously to fill that many pixels, .. ;)

thanks..the more I read about these things the more confused I get. It seems that in the future UHD will be the norm but I will more likely right now just get a 1080 set

AFAIK, only Japan is broadcasting at least 1 station in 4K. Youtube also has some 4K videos. Other than that, the only 4K you'll get is your TV up-converting 1080p to 4K. I'm waiting for the price of OLEDs to come down. Maybe my next TV will be OLED and 4K.

As stated above there is no content being sent out in the US yet. The only thing I know of available in 4k is recorded on my Samsung Note 3. I would just stick with a 1080p set.

You can get this content from YouTube videos, as well as NetFlix very soon. It took a while for a lot of mainstream stuff to go 1080 when it first came out as well. I have been looking at getting a new TV, and when looking at the prices, I am thinking for cost effectiveness, I may go with the 4K. If you have ever seen it up close, it is AMAZING quality.

Yeah, 3D was a flop. I know I was never interested in it. 3D is like, "hey check this out real quick" to friends. Then it is never used again.

But I don't think anyone wouldn't like a better pic, specialy on a large screen.

Shit, I think its crazy that there are still SD channels. Or at the very least, all the SD channels have another HD ch.

Seiki had a 50" 4K TV on Amazon for around $500 last week. It got some pretty decent reviews for what you get in a $500 dollar TV.

Personally, I will stick with my Plasma and my Projector for a little while longer.
We have two LCDs in the house right now that hardly get used. I am thinking of turning the 32" into my computer monitor.

Go for it. For a short period of time when we moved into our new house. I had the computer hooked up to the 42" LCD. Just so I could use it till everything was in place. It was pretty cool having a screen that big for computer use at home.

there was this guy on you tube that was talking about an 8k chip vs a 10k chip. He said make sure that your 4k tv set has the 10 k chip and not the 8k or some things will not play correctly like netflix. That only confused me more.I have reviewed a lot of sets online and there is always that one little piece from a reviewer or author that makes me second guess myself on a choice. My present flat screen is a sony bravia lcd, has a great pic but it was one of those with the bad t-conn boards it has been dying for the past year or so and pretty much shot now.

That's probably one reason to wait instead of buying one now. Early adopting is risky. It's better to wait it out and see what wins. Plus it'll be much cheaper. If it were me, I'd buy a 70" HD tv. It's about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of an UHD. Two or three years down the road, the cost of the UHD will be close to today's HD. Even purchasing two tvs a couple years apart, you'll probably wind up spending less money than if you bought the UHD today.
