recently got a used (hey im broke) PS3 and was going thru a few media servers so I can stream movies from the PC to the PS3.

all had issues with the dubbing, or choppy video.

the only acceptable one I found was TVersity

Im using a wired connection so I dunno what else to do.

please post up options and any settings I may have goofed on.

    thank you!

Been using PS3 Media Server for years with no issues.

Regardless of what server you use, if you are trying to play mkv files, you probably experienced some pretty poor performance. The PS3 doesn't support mkv directly, so many servers will try to transcode it on-the-fly before serving it. The results usually suck... and forget trying to skip forward/backward in the video.
Fortunately, mkv can be "re-wrapped" quickly into a highly compatible format using free programs.
I use mkv2vob. The process is fast since it doesn't need to re-encode (transcode) the video.. it just switches the video/audio stream in the mkv file to another "container" format, with your choice of extension (I use .m2ts)

The PS3 plays these perfectly. And your server just streams them directly over to the PS3 without having to transcode or even break a sweat.

They are already vob files....still choppy with bad dubbing.

PC is an 8 core 4 GHz , with 16 gigs of ram.

So were not talking about HD content even.. straight-up dvd rips? They should play fine.. I wonder if the server software is transcoding it as it streams it..could produce the problems you are having. I'll have to try it..

Correct, just regular old rips....... I've used ps3 med server straight outta the box.. Changed some buffering levels, and tried high and low quality/slow computer output options.

So..I just ripped a 7 min VOB straight off a DVD and streamed it over to my PS3 flawlessly. It doesn't transcode it, it just sends it straight over. I really don't get what the problem is you're having..
Have you tried any other formats of video? Even some HD stuff.
What about trying to play the VOB files directly on the PS3 using a external HD or thumb drive?

Nope, no adjustments to PMS. I can paste a config screen shot if it helps.
I really think the problem is elsewhere though, since you've tried multiple servers.

Trying them off a flash drive/ext drive hooked directly to the PS3 would tell you if it's a streaming issue or not, at least. (Don't forget, you can't use NTFS formatted volumes - has to be FAT16 or 32 and therefore a 4GB single file size limit)

Trying different video formats would tell you if it's an issue with the VOB files (mpeg-2).

I play .mkv files HD content all the time over PMS (converted to .m2ts with MKV2VOB). Never any stuttering/sync issues (unless the original file was bad).

Maybe you're having network issues. Even if you're using an older 100Mbps connection, you should have no problems streaming DVDs.

Yeah, that's why I suggested to try playing local files to see. Could be network issues on the PC side, software OR hardware, even cabling... anyone's guess without more testing.

Forgot about this thread... What version did you end up using? I'm still using 1.72 ... I really should update.
