The proposed rules, announced by Federal Communications chairman Tom Wheeler earlier this month, would regulate mobile and fixed broadband providers as though they were utilities. This would give the FCC greater authority to ensure providers treat all Internet traffic equally.
“We need clear, enforceable, legally sustainable rules to ensure that the Internet remains open and continues to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers. This is the heart of Twitter,” wrote Will Carty, a Twitter public policy manager, in a company blog post Monday.

I have to watch what I "say" here but this can't be a good thing.

Another nail in the coffin of the America our fathers and grandfathers grew up in. Socialist times are coming, freedoms are leaving.

This isn't really news. The FCC tried to do this last year.

Increased prices and freedom will be gone. I'll just drop it and go to radio.

So am I the only guy rooting for net neutrality? All these statements are vague in here.

I mean comcast purposely throttles Netflix unless they pay them shit tons of unnecessary money. It's fucking ridiculous.

"The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted today to accept FCC chairman Tom Wheeler's proposal that the Commission "use its Title II authority to implement and enforce open Internet protections." Or, to put it in plain English, your ISP must provide equal broadband access to you or any site -- Amazon, Netflix, etc. -- without slowing down or speeding up sites for additional fees."

I understand what is going on as I have been following this for a while, but the title of the thread and the comments are misleading.

    Nah. I am.

We already have the slowest broadband internet access in the civilized world. The comcast lobby would have you believe that regulation, rather than their monopoly position, is what's keeping it that way.

Look, I make my living developing internet content. I'm all about competition among content providers.

But big ISPs have a proven ability to use their exclusive access to the "last mile" to favor their own content and extort money from content providers to deliver content into folks homes.

That is not competition. That is not the free market at work. That's monopolists using their position to inhibit competition so as to increase their own bottom line.
