I have an xbox 360 thats hooked to live via my imac, i plug my xbox into my imac via ethernet and click internet sharing to the ethernet port on my imac. so i have a modem across the house hooked up to an apple wireless airport extreme base station. Everything works but NAT settings for live are moderate. which is bad because i need it to be open. I can hardly ever play with my friends because it will never let me join their games. please help me.

just to clarify, you have the xbox360 -> imac (via internet sharing) and the imac -> airport extreme wifi router, right?

its not that live doesnt work. its just laggy and strict about who i can join games with. i want my NAT settings open. but.. i scheduled a complimentary support call with apple, and hopefully they can help me through opening up the ports on my router.

buy a long ass ethernet cable and run it straight to the router.

i have my 360 hooked up to my airport extreme base station. Its connected with the wireless adapter on my 360. I didn't have to mess with any settings and it doesn't have any problems. Could it be something else?

I don't know macs, but if I had to venture a guess, I'd say there's either a firewall issue on the imac or port resolution issue. If there's no firewall, you could try playing with port forwarding or something of that nature, but in any case, it's a less than ideal setup that's going to introduce some lag time in your connection. If you can't run cable, it's time to break down and buy the wireless adapter.

Why can't you move the router close to the xbox, then buy a wireless adapter for the imac? This would be the cheapest setup and produce the best result.
