MacBook Pro Geek Enter Here.....

well i buying a MBP...im tired of my PC and want something nice.

so the refreshed model has 4GB of RAM which i think is way more than enough for school and internet use but i was looking at configuring my own macbook and there is an option for 50 bucks to upgrade the hard drive to 320 GB serial ATA drive from the standard 250 GB.

is this upgrade worth the 50 bucks in your opinion?
im not very informed when it comes to this stuff.


PS- i cream my pants everytime i go to the apple site

 

You'll probably sell or buy new before you ever fill 250 gb hard drive. But I suppose if your going to load it down with movies and tons of music files than it might be worth the extra money.

Ya just stick with the 250, its plenty for a MacbookPro and with what you want to do. If you really need more room, just buy an external hard drive.

The big deal is RPM's on the hard drive. A 5400 rpm drive will be much slower than the 7200. Noticable difference.

 

250 is enough i have mine and i love it best decision i ever made
one thing you make shure to buy with 50 extra dollars is the incase neoprene
sleve for the mbp its great and protects the comp good.

 

x2! this is much more important. I'm running a 7200rpm, 320GB harddrive in my MBP and it is *significantly* faster than the "stock" 5400rpm, 120GB drive.

so what case do u guys recommend?
what are the first things i should do/install wen i get it?

 

If you're going to do any video editing/graphics/etc., then splurge for the extra memory.

But definitely, the faster processor is more important.

Speck makes some really nice cases, and they're bulletproof (not really). I have one for my MBP and my iPhone. I drop my iPhone all the time and it still works great.

Don't bother buying upgrades from Apple's site. Especially memory.

Like others said, stick with the 250GB, but make sure it's 7200 RPM. If you need more space later, buy a larger one and re-use the 250GB as an external drive.

The back to school sale is pretty good, but... You can usually save a little with the student discount if you dont want to wait.
